Forest Fire in the Class

 Forest Fire in the Class

Human society is known for its gullibility. A person says something and the other spices

up the same thing and passes it on. Then, something entirely different is fabricated. This is

how a rumour spreads. When I was younger, I was rather ingenuous and believed all the

ghost stories my friends would tell me. Though, now I know better. So many rumours like

the existence of Bloody Mary, Annabelle and many other cursed spirits were spread across

the school just like wildfire! I, being the credulous one at that time, believed in all of them and

sometimes made up ludicrous ideas like sleeping with the idols of gods.

One friend of mine, Ahaana, told me once that if we said “Bloody Mary” thrice, then

her apparition would appear. I told a few of my friends and they told theirs and the surprise

was that I wasn’t the only who believed which was quite a bolt from the blue. For the next

month, the only thing we were talking about was summoning Bloody Mary. Around the

second week, there were rumours about the ghost’s appearance. Some said she had a long

blood-red tongue. Others said she had backwards legs. I, being me, believed all of it.

Later, the only trustworthy person - my mother - told me that ghosts aren’t real. All this

time, I was scared of a stupid and totally illusory rumour. After that, I was quite sick and

tired of Ahaana. Trust me, I didn’t talk to her for weeks. Not only me, the whole school was

vexed with her.
